BBEdit 3.5 Product Information
====== === ======= ===========
What can BBEdit do for you?
---- --- ------ -- --- ---
BBEdit 3.5 is...
a high-performance text editor, which is an ideal tool for any
task that involves handling large text files, or manipulation
or transformation of text information or data. It is ideally
suited for programming, telecommunications or cross-platform
tasks, and HTML or text content composition.
For Coders
--- ------
Just Browsing...
BBEdit's integrated disk browser provides you with a quick and
easy means of navigating any mounted volume. It's the ideal
tool for exploring developer and E.T.O. CDs. BBEdit also has the
unique ability to open multiple THINK or CodeWarrior project
documents, either for browsing or searching.
Can't Find It? Just Ask.
At the heart of BBEdit's editing ability is a powerful engine for
searching text, either literally or with UNIX(TM)-style "grep"
patterns. This search engine is coupled to multi-file directory
scanning, and the ability to search currently open windows,
previously searched files, or project documents (even if your
development environment isn't running). The new "Quick -
Search" capability gives interactive searching as you type. So,
even if you don't know what you're looking for, BBEdit can find it.
Coding Machine.
All of this great capability would be wasted if you couldn't use
BBEdit to write code. That's why we've incorporated awareness
of Projector, direct support for ToolServer, and seamless
integration as an external editor for use with THINK C/Symantec
C++ (version 6.0 and later), as well as support for control of
Metrowerks CodeWarrior (version 1.2 and later).
Up to date and on the edge.
In addition to its renowned editing abilities, BBEdit supports the
latest system software technologies: Apple Guide, AppleScript,
Macintosh Drag and Drop, PowerTalk, PowerPC acceleration,
and Quickdraw GX printing. There are goodies to make your life
easier: "soft" text wrapping, automatic linefeed translation,
parenthesis balancing, auto-indent, and more. You can also
extend BBEdit with plug-in code modules. (We provide
information and examples to help.)
For Netters
--- -------
Let's Go Surfing.
BBEdit 3.5 has features for the Internet information provider as
well as the net surfer and online user:
* Supports the Internet Config system to manage interaction
with internet tools such as Web browsers and FTP clients.
* Native PowerPC(TM) code to speed editing, searching and
transformation of text files.
* HTML tools (included) speed the composition of home pages
and other WWW content.
* Supports Macintosh Drag and Drop technology for
editing and other common tasks.
* Automatic "soft" text wrapping.
* Supports AOCE standard mail package for reading,
sending and composition of PowerTalk mail.
* Unique "Find Differences" can find differences between
folders and projects, as well as files.
* Scriptable via any OSA compatible scripting language
(Including AppleScript(R) and Frontier(TM) 3.0)
* Powerful multi-file search and replace.

We packed value into the entire BBEdit package with great

========================================
Here's what some of the critics have to say about BBEdit:
"Find Differences has proven itself invaluable. I'm
able to quickly compare two sets of source files and
integrate the differences. Until BBEdit came along,
it was a real chore."
-- Leonard Rosenthol, Director of Advanced Technology,
Aladdin Systems
"The speed of BBEdit on Power Macs is very impressive. Large
files open very quickly, and search and replace operations,
particularly multi-file seaching, really fly."
-- Tom Emerson, Software Engineer, Symantec Corporation
"BBEdit provides much functionality in an uncluttered
interface that belies its power."
- TidBITS #202
"BBEdit's combination of ease of use, drag-and-drop text editing,
XTND(TM) support, and integration with Symantec C++ have made
it my ideal development environment."
- Chris Borton, Senior Software Engineer, Storm
Technology, Inc.

Why not use Another Text Editor?
=== === === ======= ==== =======
There are many reasons:
- None of them are as well-supported as BBEdit. Others go years
between maintenance versions and major releases; we continually
maintain and enhance BBEdit to meet our customers' needs.
- None of them work as smoothly with your chosen development
tools (CodeWarrior, THINK C/Symantec C++, THINK Reference 2.0,
or MPW ToolServer) as BBEdit does.
- None of them can read or search THINK C, THINK Pascal,
and Code Warrior project documents.
- Two words: Internet Config
- None of the others are Accelerated for Power Macintosh.
- None of them support the Claris XTND mechanism.
- Or have any neat features like disk browsers.
- Or support for Apple Guide and Balloon Help.
And the list goes on.
BBEdit has been around for a long time, and continues to support its
installed base. And it promises to keep on doing so. Let's face it:
there are old text editors, and there are bold text editors, but there
are no old, bold text editors.
